sara watkins

Whoa, that was the best show ever. Sara Watkins on violin and vocals, brother Sean on guitar and vocals, upright piano with the front board taken out so you can see the hammers, acoustic base, drums, metal hammer washboard thingy, Ben Lee, John C O'Reilly who sang and played his thunderdrum, and Gillian Welch with David Rawlings at the end. At Largo you get to sit down, too, and the room doesn't smell like alcohol or hipsters.

Gillian Welch and David Rawlings are my absolute favorites right now. I saw them in San Francisco at the Hardly Strickly Bluegrass Festival in G.G. park and at Strawberry Music Festival.

I saw Sara and Sean Watkins when they were Nickel Creek, but they took a backseat to Chris Thile, so I never really appreciated their talent. I'm glad to hear they are making it on their own.
